ABSTRACT KNOWLEDGE OF PREVENTION OF BACK PAIN IN SDN KARYAWANGI KEC. PARONGPONG, WEST BANDUNG Nendi Gusmawan NIM: 1651066 The prevalence of back pain occurrence in Indonesia according to PERDOSSI (Neurologist Association of Indonesia) in 2002 was 15.6% and was second only to cephalgia and migraine. Increases in back pain usually occur most often at rapid growth (age 11-16 year). A preliminary study conducted by researcher at SDN Karyawangi also showed that almost all students complained of back pain, 17 out of 35 students carried bag loads that exceeded the required weight, and all students sat in the classroom for about 5 hours without regard to a good sitting position for back health. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge about the prevention of back pain as early as possible. The design used in this study was experimental with pre-post test design in one group. Sampling by accidental sampling method. The sample in this study were 93 people. The data were collected using a test consisting of 20 questions that have been tested for validity and reliability, with validity value > 0,361 and reliability value 0,826. Data were calculated using the presentation formula and paired t-test. The results show that knowledge about prevention of back pain before health counseling is less with a percentage of 50,43%. Knowledge after counseling is enough with a percentage of 72.42%. The result of calculation shows that there is a significant difference of knowledge about prevention of back pain at SDN Karyawangi before and after health counseling with tcount 11,518 at 95% confidence level or α = 0,05.
