ABSTRACT DETERMINANT OF SMOKING MOTIVATION IN THE EARLY ADOLESCENTS IN CIHANJUANG RAHAYU KEC. PARONGPONG Timothy Victor Honest Hutapea NIM: 1351032 From the result of preliminary study and observation made by the researcher on April 25-27 2017, it was found a smoking phenomenon in Indonesia is very alarming and even has penetrated into adolescent. The purpose of this research was to describe the description of the determinants of smoking motivation among the early adolescents in Cihanjuang Rahayu Kec. Parongpong. The method used in this research was qualitative method with accidental sampling technique. The research respondents used in this study were 10 junior high school students in Cihanjuang Rahayu Kec. Parongpong. The result showed that the reason why the early adolescents choose to smoking was because of personality factors that they want to try, biological factors because they are addicted, and the influence of parents and friends. Suggestions for UNAI’s Management: The result of this study may provide updated information for policy makers at the University regarding smoking control policies in campus settings. For UNAI’s students: This research is expected to give the latest information about the impact of smoking on the quality of life of students, especially at Universitas Advent Indonesia. With this information the students are expected to participate in supporting the policy of the campus that is smoke-free area and maintain the behavior of smoking in the society. For teenagers: can be taken into consideration in making decisions to smoke and be smart to choose friends. For parents: can better monitor and show what is needed by the children. For society: can educate teenagers are now more positive, such as not smoking to be in the example by teenagers now. Other research: The result of this study are expected to make reference to phenomological research and smoking status in relation to quality of life among adolescents Keyword: Determinant of smoking motivation in the early adolescents
