XMLABSTRACT Thesis Title : ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTS OF THE SHEPHERD LEADERSHIP ON YOUTH SPIRITUAL GROWTH IN THE SEVENTH- DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH REGION VII OF THE DKI JAKARTA CONFERENCE BASED ON PROVERBS 22: 6 Researcher Name : Jons Mandoya Name and Title : M.Fil Advisor : Pdt. DR. Stimson Hutagalung, M.Fil. Technical Advisor : Pdt. DR. Rudolf Weindra Sagala, M.PTh. End Date : 25 April 2019 Shepherd's ministry as a leader in the church is very important. In practice, it is known by church members and by the wider community that the pastor is a spiritual leader. As a pastor's spiritual leader the church has a very important influence because he himself is a spiritual father both in his household and in the church. That is why the pastor must realize that he plays an important role in giving spiritual influence both in his household and in the Church. Because if the pastor likes spiritual things, the church will be directed to spiritual life. Phenomenal problems that is happening to the youth in the Region VII that make their faith decline is their absence in divine worship, Sabbath school program, adventist youth program, Midweek Prayer, early morning prayer, crusade event, that make the presentation decreases. Even young people who are faithful in the church become figures for other youth but eventually get married with non-adventist and became godless person or were already get pregnant. Are the Pastors of Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) in the region VII of DKI Jakarta lack of influence or unable to make an approach to the youth at the region VII. The purpose of this study was first, to make the pastors, especially in the DKI Jakarta Conference region VII of the Jakarta Conference and surrounding areas, could find out what kind of leadership the youth hoped would lead to the quality of their faith. Second, to find out how far the level of satisfaction of the youth towards the leadership of the pastor as a spiritual leader. Third, so that this research can be used as the feedback for pastors in the region VII of the Jakarta Conference and surrounding areas that every pastor must understand the intent and purpose of becoming a spiritual leader in the church and be able to become a good consultant for young people in the church and be able to see social symptoms that arise on the surface, especially in the association of young people. Theoretical Foundation Analysis of the influence of Church Shepherd Leadership and specifically highlighting the education of young people in the church, the second is the Thinking Framework and the third is the Submission of Hypotheses. Everyone who wants to be on top and famous should be like a servant. Jesus gave an example to His disciples that a leader must serve rather than be served. The servant sometimes gets torture and suffering, but the faithful servant will be entrusted to him all the possessions of his master. Like Jesus who faithfully performed His Father's task in Heaven then God bestowed the throne in Heaven. The author pay close attention to the fact that the presence of young people in the church still does not show optimal participation. The ability of young people has not been fully released either at church events in general or even for special Adventist Youth events. The participation of young people is needed in all church events. By actively participating they can learn, share, and gain knowledge in many ways related to the spirituality of the church congregation and the youth. This research population is a member of the church of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the region VII of the DKI Jakarta Conference with a total of 1200 population members. The number of churches in Region VII is as many as 10 churches, namely: Cawang, Taman Harapan, Kayu putih, Rawamangun Jatinegara, Cililitan, cabang UKI, Taman Harapan Yordan, Kalimalang, Berea. The author will only take samples from 10 (ten) churches as a population. The research method used in this thesis is quantitative research. This survey research was developed based on explanatory-confirmatory research. This research is called explanatory because this study only examines deeply the influence of independent variables on the dependent variable which the independent variable is the Analysis of the Effect of Shepherd Leadership, hereinafter referred to as variable X1, church members' understanding of the pastor's leadership pattern based on Proverbs 22: 6, furthermore referred to variable X2, and about Young People's Spiritual Growth, furthermore referred to as variable Y. The conclusion of this study is first, Pastors in the region VII of the Jakarta Conference and surrounding areas feel they are called to be leaders but do not understand the meaning and purpose of being a spiritual leader in the church because church members both young and old people see the attitude of shepherds arrogance who do not like to receive feedback, as evidenced by the results of the descriptive statistical test on statement number one questionnaire. Second, members of the congregation, especially young people, argue that the pastor often takes self-interest in making decisions regarding church service because most of church member agrees that the assembly meetings of the youths was reluctant to express their opinions for fear that their ideas would be rejected by the church pastor as the leader of the Assembly meeting. Third, church members, especially young people, are dissatisfied with the shepherd's leadership who plays favouritism to be proven based on statement number 15, church members strongly agree that young people judge that the pastor likes to impose to follow his will in decision making which is more beneficial to the pastor or people that close to him. Suggestions from this study are first, the pastors, especially in the region VII of the Jakarta Conference and surrounding areas must be able to know what kind of leadership style is expected by the young people to make the quality of their faith to grow. Second, every pastor must understand the point and the purpose of becoming a spiritual leader in the church and be able to become a good consultant for the youth in the congregation and be able to see the social symptoms that arise on the surface, especially in the association of young people. Third, it is very required to improve the quality of pastors comprehension in the region VII of the Jakarta Conference and surrounding areas, about biblical leadership based on Proverbs 22: 6. So that in the practice of serving as spiritual leaders in the congregation, pastors can display profiles of leaders who serve as God's servants who lead and serve young people well. So that in the end of this scientific work can be useful to improve the services of pastor as a leader who is always present and be able to answer the spiritual needs of each member of the church more specifically for the youth, thus through shepherd leadership can exalt and glorify God.
