ABSTRACT The Title of thesis : THE SERMON ANALYSIS OF PASTORS AND THE ELDERS ACCORDING TO THE SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCHMEMBERS VIEW IN SOLO AREA BASED ON MATTHEW 13:3. Researcher's name : Sutarji Material advisor : Dr. Alvyn Hendriks, M. Min Date of completion : April 15th 2019 Preaching is something that is very important in spiritual growth and the salvation of souls. Bringing sermons that can attract attention and impact spiritual growth for church members is a challenge for preachers including the pastors and elders of the church today who often preach. In addition to the preacher's good personality, the structure of good sermons, the content of interesting sermons, and the good style of delivery are the best method of preaching determines whether the preaching of pastors and elders will attract attention and impact spiritual growth for church members. The sermon analysis of pastors and elders according to the seventh day adventist church members view in solo area based on Mattew 13: 3 is the focus of the research currently being carried out by the author. Against the background of the problem, there are church members who sleepy even sleep at chuch, bored, daydreaming, chatting with each other, and playing gadgets as a result of unattractive sermons and lack of faith in the congregation, no deep impressions, not motivated to repent and there is no determination to live better before God as the spiritual impact of the ineffective sermon triggered the writer to study it according to Matthew 13: 3, supported by the writings of Ellen G. White, and the writings of other Christian writers. Matthew 13: 3 which is examined based on the purpose, content, and method of preaching, does the effective method of preaching have an impact on spiritual growth and the salvation of souls that Jesus often used during his ministry? Researchers later discovered that the effective method of preaching had an impact on spiritual growth and the salvation of souls that Jesus often used during his past ministry was the method of preaching using parables and life stories. Ellen G. White also gave the same view that the effective method of preaching had an impact on spiritual growth and the salvation of souls was the method of preaching as Jesus often used, namely the method of preaching using parables and life stories. Christian writers argue that effective methods of preaching have an impact on spiritual growth and the salvation of souls and attract attention are narrative methods (storytelling) or inductive preaching, ranging from the interests of the congregation to the truth, through the stories of preachers communicate sermon ideas. Christian writers also added that the supporting factors of an effective sermon had an impact on spiritual growth and the salvation of souls and attracted attention, namely the character and personality of the preacher, the structure of the sermon, introduction, content, conclusions, illustrations, delivery style, and media use electronic. Through the questionnaire instrument, the research was conducted in five Solo Seventh-day Adventist churches involving 150 respondents from October to December 2019. The method used was descriptive survey method using a questionnaire distributed and filled out by members of the congregation in the Solo Area. This study used a Likert Scale to measure the understanding of the members of Seventh Day Adventist Chuches perceptions of effective sermons and their impact on spirituality based on biblical principles. The results of the study prove that: (1) Members of the congregation do not understand the impact of less interesting and less effective sermons, (2) the benefits of illustrations, life stories, and stories in sermons, (3) the importance of good character, thinking about the duration of sermons, the structure of sermons good, good delivery style, and use of electronic media; and (4) the benefits and purpose of sermons for listeners. Data analysis procedures are performed to analyze data by making generally accepted conclusions and analyzing by describing or representing collected data as they are by intending to generalize the results of the study. The procedure consists of validation, reabilitis, normality, linearity, hypothesis, and descriptive statistics. The question number 1-31 is a valid item. The rebility test results of each variable are more than 0.600, it means that each variable gives an acceptable or reliable conclusion. Data distribution from each variable is normally distributed. The data was used can be explained by linear regression well because of the average value of Sig. the linearity on each variable is greater than 0.05. This means that each variable is linear. The conclusion of this study is as below. First, based on the results of statistical descriptions, 87.1% of respondents understood the influence of the preaching of pastors and elders for spiritual growth and the salvation of souls in the eyes of Solo members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church based on Matthew 13: 3. Secondly, on average the respondents did not understand the impact of the sermon which was less attractive and less effective for the listener, meaning that the perception of the members of Seventh-Day Adventist Chuch about the impact and impact of the sermon on listeners was still not good. Third, the average respondent understands the benefits of illustrations, life stories, and stories in the sermon, meaning that the perceptions of members of the GOD about the method of preaching effectively and attracting attention based on Matthew 13: 3 are good. Fourth, the average respondent understands the importance of good character, thinking about the duration of sermons, the structure of good sermons, the style of good delivery, and the use of electronic media, meaning the perception of members of the GOD about factors that support effective preaching and attract attention is good . Fifth, the average respondent understands the benefits and purpose of the sermon for the listeners, meaning that the perceptions of the members of the GOD about the importance of sermons that have an impact on spiritual growth and the salvation of souls are good. Suggestions from this study are as follows. The understanding of the members of Seventh-Day Adventist Chuch in the Solo area about the influence of the preaching of pastors and elders for spiritual growth and the salvation of souls based on Matthew 13: 3 is good, namely 87.1% who have understood. It's just that there are still a few questions whose average score is still small. Therefore the following suggestions need to be considered: making preaching seminars or training that specifically addresses the importance of preaching for the salvation of the listeners' lives, provides an understanding of the benefits of illumination in sermons and the selection of the best and most appropriate illustrations for used in each sermon, provides an understanding of the importance of the flow of a sermon and urges to increase or strengthen the flow of each sermon delivered, and provide input to improve the quality of sermons that have an impact on spiritual growth and the safety of souls, especially those that motivate more life changes well. The implications of this study are as follows. A preacher must consider preaching as if it is the last chance to meet them and continue to study so that the sermon is heard, cared for, and gives a deep impression to the listeners, choosing the right and proper method of preaching as the method of preaching in parables is very important the preacher so that his sermon is heard and cared for and gives a deep impression, paying attention to several supporting factors that need to be considered, in the sense practiced and turned on by a preacher in his life and when preaching so that sermons are heard and cared for, and continue to commit in preaching is for spiritual growth and the safety of the listeners' souls. Keywords: analysis, impact, method, effectiveness, factors, commitment, sermon, pastor and elder.
