ABSTRACT EFFECTIVENESS OF BREASTFEEDING PRE IMMUNIZATION ON DECREASING PAIN RESPONSE IN INFANT AT WORK AREA OF PUSKESMAS PARONGPONG Risma Damayanti NIM: 1251084 Pain associated with immunization injection is a source of suffering for children, the elderly, and those who give the injection (Taddio et al., 2009). Proper treatment needed to treat pain due to immunization injection, one of which is with breastfeeding before immunization. Breastfeeding has a component that gives comfort to the baby that is the taste of breast milk, breast milk contains lactose that sweet solution can be reducing the pain response in infants immunization. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of breastfeeding before immunization against to reduce pain response in infants at Puskesmas Parongpong. This research is a quasi experimental with posttest-only design. Subjects in this study were 20 people who are divided into two groups: 10 subjects in the intervention group and 10 subjects in the control group who fit the criteria of research. Pain response measured when the injection immunization using FLACC (face, leg, activity, cry, consolability). Acquisition of pain response data is calculated using the mode, then proceed with the statistical test by MannWhitney. Mode value in the intervention group is 9, which means included in the category of severe pain. Mode value in the control group is 9, which means included in the category of severe pain. The results of this study indicate that the value of p = 0.181 > α = 0.05 which means that there are no differences in the implementation of breastfeeding pre immunization to reduce pain response in infant at work area of Puskesmas Parongpong.
