ABSTRACT RELATIONSHIP SODIUM ANDPOTASSIUM INTAKE WITH BLOOD PRESSURE OF NURSING STUDENTS FACULTY OF NURSING GRADUATE STUDY PROGRAM IN ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY OF INDONESIA HEPPY AFRIANI TAMBA Nim: 1551055 High blood pressure can be caused by the retention of sodium in the blood. Potassium can lower blood pressure by causing the vasodilatory effect of peripheral total retention. Based on the information of some nursing students have blood pressure elevated category. This study aims to determine the relationship between sodium and potassium intake with blood pressure of students in Undergraduate Nursing Study at Adventist University of Indonesia. This study uses an observational method with a correlative descriptive approach with the number of subjects as many as 25 people selected by purposive sampling method. Sodium and potassium intake is obtained by the Estimated Food Record method. Blood pressure was measured using an aneroid sphygmomanometer. This study showed that 15 (60%) respondents had more sodium intake, 25 (100%) respondents had less potassium intake. Elevated systolic blood pressure was 7 (28%) respondents, and systolic blood pressure in stage 1 hypertension was 3 (12%) respondents. Elevated and normal blood pressure in the diastolic category was 11 (44%) respondents, diastolic blood pressure in stage 1 hypertension was 12 (48%) respondents and diastolic blood pressure in stage 2 hypertension was 2 (8%) respondents. Pearson Product Moment test results on sodium and potassium intake with systolic blood pressure showed no significant relationship (p> 0.05). The Spearman rho test results on sodium and potassium intake with diastolic blood pressure showed no significant relationship (p> 0.05). Further research requires more respondents and other factors that affect blood pressure. Key words: Sodium Intake, Potassium Intake, Blood Pressure
