ABSTRACT BLOOD PRESSURE IN THE ELDERLY BASED ON AGE, GENDER, AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Written by : Gaby Ester Rumata NIM : 1451041 This research was conducted by previous preliminary study to 10 elderly respondents and found 6 elderly have high blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine blood pressure in elderly by age, gender and physical activity. The method used in this research is descriptive correlation research method. The study respondents were 43 Adventist elders at UNAI, Parongpong, and Indonesia Publishing House (IPH). Instrument used in this research is Physical Activity Questionnaire, and sphygmomanometer to measure blood pressure. The data obtained is processed statistically with the analysis of person r product moment data. The result of the analysis showed that for the age category, the elderly had the highest number of 76.7% and for the gender the highest number was female gender which 65.1%, and the physical activity of most of the elderly activity level was light activity that was equal to 83,7% . Most elderly (88.4%) had above normal cytogenic blood pressure, and for diastolic blood pressure, most elderly (76.7%) had above normal diastolic blood pressure. There was no significant association with very poor degree of relationship between age, gender, and physical activity with blood pressure with P-value > 0,05. It is hoped that this research can be used as a baseline to develop the following research as looking at other factors that can lead to increased blood pressure in older adults to reduce the risk of increased blood pressure.
