ABSTRACT STRESS EXPERIENCES DURING CLINICAL PRACTICE AMONG BACCALAUREATE NURSING STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITAS ADVENT INDONESIA Yuvita Christiober NIM: 1451043 Nursing students encounter various experiences that can be stressors in carry out clinical nursing practice. The purpose of this study is to describe nursing students’ experiences of eustress and distress during clinical nursing practice through bachelor nursing program. This research uses qualitative method with phenomenology approach through in-depth interview technique. Six senior nursing students who had completed clinical practice program form first to fifth were selected. The results of the study indicate that the higher the level of clinical practice, the nursing students’ confidence and courage were improved in carry out nursing action. Students are also motivated to master nursing actions as well as to overcome various patient conditions. Nursing students’ distress experience is described as fearful of taking nursing action due to lack of preparation, afraid of making mistakes, Afraid of failing to communicate with patient, etc. Nursing students are expected to have more preparation prior to nursing field. Faculty, clinical instructors and graduated nurse in the clinical field should be encouraged to maintain a conducive clinical learning environment. Finally, there is a necessity to further study of adaptation mechanism used by nursing students during clinical practice program.
