ABSTRACT Thesis Title : COMPARISON ANALYSIS OF PERCEPTION TOWARDS THE CONCEPT OF GOD’S REIGN AMONG CHRISTIAN AND ISLAM STUDENTS Researcher : Danial Sutami Putra, S.Psi Supervisor : Dr. B.D. Nainggolan, MPS. Date of Completion : 24th April 2015 The emergence of radical movement ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) in the last few years awakened writer’s memories of an idealism which longing for an establishment of God’s Reign physially on earth. The same longing was also possessed by people of Israel in the time of Jesus. In referring to the concept of God’s Reign, Jewish and Christian tradition using the term Kingdom of God, while Islamic tradition using the term Khilafah. Writer have found similarities as well as differences while comparing these two concpets. The similarities lie upon the factor of historical background, while for differences writer discovered at least five factors such as: form, law, territory, leader and society, and time of its establishemnt. These five factors then used as indicators in measuring the comparison of perception of Christian and Muslim students towards the concept of God’s Reign. Writer proposed hypothesis that Christian student understand the concept of God’s Reign as a spiritual movement as well as invisible, while Muslim student understand the concept of God’s Reign as a formal, institutional and physical established system. The total amount of sample is 193 respondents, with 90 students from Universitas Advent Indonesia representing Christian population, and 103 students from Universitas Indonesia coming from various Islamic-based student organizations. Using statistic in computing data, result showed that there is no significant differences found in the perception of these two student groups towards the concept of God’s Reign with tendencies to spiritual shown by the average scores of 40.89 among Christian students and 37.05 among Islam students.
