ABSTRACT Thesis Title : SEVEN-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH MEMBER OF JAKARTA CONFERENCE & SURROUNDING AREA IV PERCEPTION CONCERNING THE DIVORCE, REVIEWED FROM THE MOSAIC LAW IN DEUTERONOMY 24:1-4 AND THE INDONESIAN LAW OF MARRIAGE NO.1 OF THE YEAR 1974. Researcher Name: Lindon J. Situmorang Name and Title : Master Of Philosophy (M.Fil) Supervisor : Dr. B.D. Nainggolan, M.P.S. End Date : April, 23th 2019 Divorce is the termination of a marriage for something because of the judge's decision on the demands of one party or both parties in the marriage. Divorce is an event that ends a marriage that has been nurtured by a married couple caused by several things such as death, adultery and the Court's decision. When the problem of divorce is confronted by Jesus in Mark 10: 2 we will think that the Old Testament allows divorce or even concludes God justifies divorce in the Old Testament. Look at the words on Jesus' question: (Verse 3) But He answered them: "What did Moses command you?" Jesus did not declare: "What is God's command to you?" Then the Parish replied: (Verse 4) They replied: "Moses gave permission to divorce him by making divorce papers." We can see that the divorce permit was not by God, but by Moses. In addition, the author wants to trace the biblical teachings about marriage and divorce which depart from the assumption of many people that the Bible allows divorce for Christians, by quoting Bible verses to support that opinion. The practice of divorce in the Region IV Seventh-day Adventist Church in the DKI Jakarta Conference has not yet been known to what extent and what percentage of the increase in divorce is. But from the existence of a marriage law that permits divorce, the opportunity for legal and legitimate Adventist Christians can be greater for divorce. The author wants to trace the biblical teachings on divorce where many people have assumed that the Bible allows divorce to occur for Christians, citing the five books of the Moses Pentateuch which support this opinion by looking at the practice of divorce that occurs today as if the Marriage Law No. 1 of 1974 contained in articles 38-41 confirms that the divorce occurred. The purpose of this study was first, to find out whether there was an influence of competence from what Moses meant in allowing divorce based on Deuteronomy 24: 1-4? Second, to find out whether there is an influence of competence why the marriage law allows divorce? Third, to find out whether there is an influence of competence from the correct understanding of why divorce must occur. Fourth, to find out whether there is an influence of competence from the purpose and purpose of the divorce. Fifth, to find out whether there is an influence of competence from the Bible's interpretation of divorce. Sixth, to know concretely, the extent to which divorce lawsuits according to Christianity can be carried out through the District Court. As a theoretical basis in writing this thesis the author uses in 4 (four) parts, namely, (1) Theoretical basis, (2) Background to the selection of survey locations, (3) Thinking Frameworks, and (4) Submission of Hypotheses. This research was carried out in the Constrained Seventh-day Adventist Church of the Jakarta & Surrounding Special Capital Region in Region 4 with an overview of the timetable allocation of research time can be seen below with the following steps: preparing and validating instruments, carrying out data retrieval, processing and calculation data, monitoring data research activities and analyzing data and final analysis and submitting the final report of the research. The population in this study was the Jakarta & surrounding Conference Seventh-day Adventist Church which was restricted to Region 4 with a total population of 1,500 members. The number of churches in area 4 is 7 churches and one New Society, namely: Narogong Church, Kemang Pratama Church, Jakasampurna Church, Bojong Menteng Church, Galaksi Church, Toumotou Bekasi Church, Bukit Sion Church. But the author only took 5 Churches as a population. The four churches are: Narogong Church, Kemang Pratama Church, Jakasampurna Church, Bojong Menteng Church, Galaksi Church. The nature of the population used is 200 respondents. with the composition: Narogong Church 50 respondents, Kemang Pratama Congregation 50 respondents, Jakasampurna Church 50 respondents, Bojong Menteng Church 25 respondents and Galactic Church 25 respondents. The reason the authors chose the five churches is because these five churches are adjacent objects and are the largest member population in region 4. Analysis is needed to find out whether the data analysis for testing can be continued or not. Some data analysis techniques require test analysis requirements. Variant analysis requires that data come from populations that are normally distributed and homogeneous compared groups. Therefore, analysis of variance requires a test of validity, reliability, normality, linearity, hypothesis and descriptive statistics. The conclusion of this study is first, church members strongly agree that a successful, happy and harmonious family is a family that prioritizes and revives the love of God and they believe that household institutions are shaped by God, meaning the members understand the meaning of divorce permitted according to law. Moses is based on Deuteronomy 24: 1-4. Second, the average congregation member strongly agrees that the cause of divorce is due to unsatisfactory sexual relations between husband and wife so they assume that if the husband and wife are not harmonious then they are allowed to divorce. Third, the understanding of church members supports divorce because of the reason for the incompatibility that occurs in the household because it does not have a fixed income at work. Fourth, the average member of the congregation who supports divorce through the stipulation of the Republic of Indonesia's Republic of Indonesia Marriage Law No. 1 of 1974 was caused because one of the parties committed adultery or became a drunkard, compactor, gambler and others that were difficult to cure and one party left the other party for two consecutive years without the permission of the other party and without valid reason or because of matters other things beyond his ability. The author suggests that church members can trace the Bible's teachings about divorce where many people have assumed that the Bible allows divorce to occur for Christians. Seminars on Divorce Philosophy need to be given in terms of the law of Moses based on Deuteronomy 24: 1-4 and Marriage Law No. 1 In 1974 the members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church did not have a false interpretation of the Bible about divorce so that church members understood that divorce was not the right solution to ending problems in the household.
