ABSTRACT Title : EXPLANATORY STUDY ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SYSTEMATIC BENEVOLENCE AMONG PEOPLE OF SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH IN DUMAI AND SUMBER SARI DISTRICTS CENTRAL SUMATERA MISSION BASED ON 1 CORINTH 16: 1, 2 Researcher : Urbanus Sinambela Degree : Master of Philosophy (M.Fil) Adviser : DR. B.D. Nainggolan, MPS Finishing date : April 24, 2016 Systematic benevolence among people of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Dumai and Sumber Sari districts have been implemented but there were still very few units of giver. That was the problem that the researcher was facing in the ministry. It motivated the researcher to do the research in order to find what caused the low level of awareness among people in implementing the systematic benevolence. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Christian denomination that follows a collection system of tithes and offerings for service and to support the work of the Lord. As it was set in the Church rules, "The gospel plan in supporting the work of God to preach the eternal gospel was through the tithe and the offering of his people. The Seventh-day Adventist Church has followed this plan from the beginning." As a Christian denomination of Seventh-day Adventist Church Organizations implementing the giving of offering in maintaining the work of the gospel, establishing, nurturing and running the Church as well as establishing institutions. While the need for urgent funding for the work of the gospel, church members need to realize the importance of giving systematic benevolence. The purpose of this research was first, to strengthen the understanding of systematic benevolence and their implementation by comparing specifically the level of their implementation in SDA churches of Dumai and Sumber Sari District based on 1 Corinthians 16: 1,2. Second, to show the library research that systematic benevolence is sourced from the holy Person that is God and His blessing to the giver and the work of the gospel in the local Church as well as to all the world mission. Third, to know how important the role of pastor and congregational leader being example in giving out the systematic benevolence and the role of parents in educating children and young people being unit of systematic benevolence giver. Fourth, to find out whether members of the Seventhday Adventist Church of Dumai and Sumber Sari District have implemented systematic benevolence as their second tithe. Fifth, to finish the requirements in gaining Masteral degree in Philosophy (M. Fil.) Ellen G. White, a Seventh-day Adventist Church figure illuminates systematic benevolence since 1859 which was directly shown by God to her and it is certainly God's will. The Spirit of Prophecy instructions indicate that systematic benevolence plan pleased God. The researcher chose 1 Corinthians 16: 1,2 as the foundation of the thesis writing theory because it is the systematic verse in the collection of money and this verse provides the most complete answer to the 6 questions that is 5 W + 1 H that the researcher has described in Chapter II. Giving offering means giving to God because God is the source of all blessings then we as His people should return the blessing as our thanksgiving and gratitude to God as our worship. Giving offerings should be encouraged by love because love is the best motive in giving. The Seventh-day Adventist Church needs to have the Spirit of Giving they must learn from the Giver to move the Spirit to us. The plan of salvation begins and ends with giving, then it must be moved. The same spirit of sacrifice that pays ransom for us will dwell in the hearts of all who are participants of the grace of Heaven. Completed the issue of systematic benevolence that run smoothly and evenly among the people of SDA church of Dumai and Sumber Sari District in Central Sumatra Mission, researchers conduct field research in addition to library research. To find the answer the researcher used population research methods and samples through questionnaires. The results of questionnaires with data analysis techniques were tested using quantitative analysis. Sampling technique by Simple Random Sampling that is gaining sample by selecting specific members of the congregation proportionally from each congregation. The study took approximately 30% of 270 people from all active congregation members in Dumai and Sumber Sari district. The research instrument was data collection in the form of a questionnaire that will be tested for validity and reliability. The research instrument in this research was a list of statements. Test requirements statistical analysis provides that the data comes from a population of normally distributed and homogeneous groups. Therefore, variant analysis requires validity, reliability, normality, linearity, hypothesis and descriptive statistics. The conclusions of this research are: First, the results of the study showed that it is still necessary to provide a teaching or seminar on the systematic benevolence to the congregation to increase their understanding of the importance of systematic benevolence in order to accomplish systematic benevolence according to 1 Corinthians 16: 1,2. Descriptive statistics indicate that the districts of Dumai and Sumber Sari were still difficult to give systematic benevolence even though they have understood them. Second, Pastors and Parents need to teach young people and children about systematic benevolence, the role of the Pastor and Church Leaders can influence members of the church to understand the meaning of the Offering and willingly give to God by implementing the systematic benevolence. Third, If only all the people on this congregation have implemented the systematic benevolence there is always a church treasury for operational funds and evangelism funds so that the people are aware of the blessings that the giver gets from the loyalty of giving the systematic benevolence so as to provide an equal offering as large as the tithe. Fourth, SDA people in Dumai and Sumber Sari districts have not achieved the purpose of implementing the systematic benevolence even though the people already understand the importance of the offerings. The implications of this research are: As a Christian denomination which is so active in evangelism, the Seventh-day Adventist Church needs fund for this purpose and as the gospel spreading so the work has become increasingly responsible. The widespread work of the gospel requires great provision to sustain and this makes the law of offerings more urgent necessity right now than the Hebrew era. Recognizing the need for greater funding today than ever before, it is hoped that all members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church be more faithful in giving offerings to support the work of the gospel so that there is always sufficient funds for various things in the ministry. Funding for the work of the gospel requires an integrated offering. White wrote, "When systematic benevolence has become universal, it is obeyed by all the churches. There will always be sufficient in the treasury of God. " The suggestions on this research are first, Pastor needs to repeatedly give lessons of stewardship, especially the systematic benevolence through sermons and seminars. Second, Pastors and Church Leaders need to set an example to give systematic benevolence to the people to follow. Third, pastor needs to make a stewardship visit to the home of the congregation and explain in more detail the implementation of the systematic benevolence. Third, it is necessary to clarify to the congregation the blessing of giving the systematic benevolence systematically according to the Bible method in 1 Corinthians 16: 1,2.
