ABSTRACT Thesis Title : ANALYSIS OF WORD "SALT OF THE WORLD" BASED ON MATTHEW 5:13 FOR THE EVANGELICAL MINISTRY IN SEVENDAY ADVENTIST CHURCH CONFERENCES OF REGIONS JAKARTA AREA IV Name of Researcher: Benny Lingga Degree : Master of Philosophy (M.Fil) Supervisor : Dr. B.D. Nainggolan, MPS Done Date : 12 May 2017 Analysis of the Meaning of the word "Salt of the World" Based on Matthew 5:13 for the Evangelical Ministry of Church at the Seventh-day Adventist Conference of Jakarta Region Four. Keywords: identity, understanding, application, and influence. According to Matthew 5:13 the Lord Jesus gave a new identity to the church, which at that time was intended for the disciples. Jesus taught as salt, the disciples should work as salt principles work. The Bible calls the term salt at least 35 times, 25 times in the Old Testament and 10 times in the New Testament. Salt is a very useful mineral element in ancient Israelite society. Regarding its usefulness, James A. Patch notes that salt is used as (1) food seasoning, ie to fix and preserve food (Ay 6: 6); (2) an antiseptic drug rubbed on a newborn (Ezek 16: 4); (3) religious ceremonies, ie for the requirements of the grain offering (Lev 2:13, Eqr 6: 9) and the burnt offering (Ezek 43:24). In addition salt is also used as a fertilizer to fertilize plants (Luke 14:34, 35), however not all salt functions recorded in the Bible can be applied directly. The context is decisive! Context abandonment is a common cause of misinterpretation and even implementation. Use of the Greek term  (the genitive form of  which the LAI version of the Bible translates as "the world." This term can also mean "field" or "land" where the plant grows (Lk 14:35) the use of the term  in the sense of "land" or "field" is often done by the Lord Jesus as a metaphor for the human heart, where the seed of the word of God is sown (Mt 13: 8, 19, 23) The use of the term  in the context of preaching and fulfillment The seed of the word of God, then "the field or the land" is what is meant, and then, if 'salt' is associated with the soil or field, then its function is the intended fertilizer. "Soil" the human heart needs to get "fertilized" so that it becomes a land ready to be sown with the seed of the gospel of the word of God. The Church is called to nourish so that the message of God delivered is embedded in a fertile soil that eventually grows, and bears fruit. The research method is discussed in chapter three, while the study was conducted at the Seventh-day Adventist Church of the Fourth Area of Jakarta's Special Capital Region, consisting of seven local churches with a total population of 480 people, and respondents involved in charging 144 people. The method used in this research is quantitative research, and the data collection tool used is a questionnaire to measure the variables of understanding of the meaning of the word "salt of the world" according to Matthew 5:13 for evangelistic ministry. The discussion of the results of field research is presented in chapter four, that based on data computation, there is a relationship between understanding the meaning of the word "Salt of the World" based on Matthew 5:13 for the Evangelical Ministry of Church in the Seventh-day Adventist Conference of Jakarta Region IV with a percentage of 72 , 7%. Results Descriptive Statistics per congregation show that the average with the highest / best answer is in Toumo Tou congregation of 4.12. The lowest yield is in the Bukit Sion Church at 3.37. This shows that Toumo Tou's congregation has a better understanding of the influence of the concept of the meaning of the word "Salt of the World" according to Matthew 5:13 for the ministry of the gospel. Chapter five is the final discussion of the thesis in the form of conclusions and suggestions, the hope of church growth, discipleship and the evangelical principle through its new identity as "the salt of the earth" that nourishes the "land" of the heart for sowing the seed of the gospel / the word of God the glory of God's name.
