XMLABSTRACT Judul Tesis : ANALYSIS OF THE TELEVISION INFLUENCE TOWARD THE SPIRITUAL GROWTH OF THREE THE JUNIOR ADVENTIST STUDENS OF BANDUNG BASED ON LUKE 52:2 Name : Manogang Simanjuntak Degree : Magister Filsafat (M.Fil) Pembimbing Materi : Dr. S. Hutagalung, M.Fil Date : 25 April 2019 This study describes the extent to which parents act on television showtime which is thought to have a negative impact on study time, and the spiritual growth of Adventist Middle School students in Bandung based on Luke 52: 2. In reality, television has become a trusted source of information, and able to regulate the agenda of students' daily lives. The time used by students to watch television has exceeded the time with their parents, the time of learning and playing with friends, and even the time spent reading the Bible. While Adventist Middle School students believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ, and believe Jesus once lived in this world. In his childhood, Jesus lived in a small village, in the light of His face Jesus grew larger and increased in His wisdom and greatness, and was increasingly loved by God and humans. Jesus knew the identity and purpose of his life, even from his childhood he prioritized obedience to God in his life. He grew increasingly pleased with God's heart and increasingly became a blessing to others. With this belief, it is expected that the Adventist Middle School students will prioritize their obedience to God who has a calm heart like Jesus who grew larger and increased in His wisdom and greatness, and increasingly loved by God and humans. To meet these expectations parents should have the ability and understand the situation of the students, trying to reorganize the same life as Jesus based on Luke 52: 2. The method used in this research is descriptive method, and to answer the alleged influence of television on students' spiritual growth, researchers use hypothesis testing. The population in this study was the Adventist Middle School in Bandung in the academic year 2018/2019. While the samples were Advent Lab School UNAI, PAB Cimindi and PAB Setia Budi. The results in this study are that the supervision of parents on the time of watching television for their children is in the low category, as well as that the impact of student learning because of the influence of watching television is in the low category. Furthermore, to see the extent of the impact of television shows on the spiritual growth of students, hypothesis testing is carried out and has met the analysis require ments. By using the SPSS program, the correlation coefficient is 0.392, and the influence or impact (contribution) caused by television shows on the decline in spiritual growth of students is equal to the squared correlation coefficient of 15.40%. From the t test results with ∝ = 0.05, it was found that H0 was rejected, which means there was a negative influence on television shows on the spiritual growth of Adventist Middle School students in the city of Bandung. A contribution of 15.40% that seems small needs to be concerned because it may gradually give a considerable negative effect.
