ABSTRACT Thesis Title : “ THE ANALYSIS TOWARD THE EFFECT OF MERCIFUL LIFE OF SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH OF DKI JAKARTA CONFERENCE REGION III ON THE SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND EVANGELISM BASED ON THE PHILOSOPHY OF MATTHEW 5:7.” Name of Researcher : Linton Hutagaol Title : Master of Philosophy (M.Fil) Supervisor Material : Dr. B.D.Nainggolan, M.P.S. Completed : 24th April 2018 The Seventh-day Adventist Church (GMAHK) has a new strategic plan for the church in calling on each of the members to share Jesus. In the program members are required to have a commitment for two months of prayer, focus on Bible study and preparation. After that time the members invite families, friends and neighbors to join them in a weekly care group at a member's home or other needs. The focus is to build relationships and on the meetings the discussions talk about general topics. The needs of other members of the group may be related to spiritual needs because human being not only live because of the food but also the needs of God’s word. Through biblical study, caring group members can gain satisfaction from the thirst of God's word, in this case the sacrifice of time and energy needed by the church members in order to win souls for Jesus. The researchers’ observation on the members of DKI Jakarta Conference church in Region III and it was found out that the church members were busy with their own business so that they were less involved in evangelization at the church. Evangelism in every church is done by people who are committed to evangelism whereas the number of the members are fixed and unchanged, while there were many church members were only attending the regular service held by the church and after the service they went home and did not give any attention to the activities at the church. The objectives of this research are to find out whether the members of the Seventh- Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III believe in the importance of merciful based on Matthew 5:7, which is influence the spiritual growth. Second, to find out whether the members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III have belief in the importance of merciful based on Matthew 5:7, which influence the evangelism progress. Third, to find out whether the members of the DKI Jakarta Conference Region III able to apply the merciful character in their daily life based on Matthew 5:7, and the influence on spiritual growth. Fourth, to find out whether the Seventh- Day Adventist church members of the DKI Jakarta Conference Region III when they applying the merciful based on Matthew 5: 7 would have an effect on evangelism. Theoretical basis were the relevant theories that can be used to explain the variables to be studied as the basis for providing temporary answers to proposed the formulation problem (hypothesis) as well as the preparation of research instruments. Theoretical basis was a literature review that became the basis for the researcher in doing this thesis research entitled: "The analysis toward the effect of merciful life of Seventh-Day Adventist church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III on the spiritual growth and evangelism based on the philosophy of Matthew 5:7." The description of the theoretical basis described: (1) The Background of Book of Matthew: The Title of the Book of Matthew, The Author of Matthew, The Writing Time of the Book of Matthew, The Purpose of Writing the Book of Matthew, Matthew Theme and The Outline of the Book of Matthew. (2) Analysis of the Book of Matthew 5:7: Happiness, Merciful. (3) Merciful Concepts in Old Testament: Boas. (4) Merciful Concept in the New Testament: Good Samaritan. (5) Merciful Concepts in Ellen. G. White’s writing. (6) The Merciful Influence on the Spiritual Growth: Love, Forgiveness Spirit, Happiness. (7) The Influence of generosity in Evangelism Growth: Love in Action, Gospel That Meets the Needs, Generosity that saved life. (8) Framework of Thinking and close with, (9) Research Hypothesis. The research method used in this thesis is quantitative research. The survey research was developed based on exploratory-confirmatory studies. This research is called explanatory because this research was only examined the depth of dependent variable (Y), that was the indicator of The Analysis Toward the Effect of Merciful Life of Seventh-Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III on The Spiritual Growth and Evangelism Based on The Philosophy ff Matthew 5:7, on variables or indicators through hypotheses. Exploratory research was also used for exploratory understanding of the concept of the Merciful in Matthew 5:7. This study consisted of endogenous and exogenous variables. Endogenous variable is a variable that is not influenced by the cause in the research system and cannot be established with the casual relationship. This variable is also defined as a beginner variable that gives effect to other variables. The sum in this variable was not taken into account of the remaining amount even though it had remained / error. Endogenous variables are variables whose diversity is explained by exogenous variables. The variables in this study were as follows: Y variables: The Influence of Merciful life Against Spiritual Growth and Evangelism Based on the Philosophy of Matthew 5:7 (endogenous variable). The population in this study were 100 church members of Wisma Asri Park, 200 of Bekasi City, 50 of Nasareth, 70 of Legend City, 40 of Graha Mustika Jaya, 50 of Bulak Kapal, 50 of Tridaya, 40 of Wisma Jaya, 40 of Babelan, 40 of Bumi Anggrek, 40 of Taman Kebalen Indah, 40 of Villa Indah Permai, and 60 church members of Tambun, with total population were 820 respondents. The sampling technique was taken randomly by using the Cluster random sampling, which was taken sampling randomly from the church members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III. The number of respondents who have had filled out the questionnaires from 1 - 28 points were about 271 respondents. The description of the seven categories of the respondents namely as the Church Members, Gender, Age, Status, Education, Employment, Position at Church. Analysis is needed to determine whether the data analysis for the testing can be proceed or not. Some data analysis techniques required test requirements analysis. Variant analysis required the data that come from normally distributed populations and groups that were homogeneous. Therefore, variant analysis required validity, reliability, normality, linearity, hypothesis and descriptive statistics. After analyzed and discussed the data, the researcher concluded that first, members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III had belief in the importance of merciful based on Matthew 5:7, which was influence the spiritual growth, the church members believed that a generous life influenced the spiritual growth. Secondly, the members Seventh-Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference had belief on the importance of merciful based on Matthew 5:7, which influence the evangelization progress, the church members believed that merciful was one of the characteristics of God's true people. Third, members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III on the application of merciful based on Matthew 5: 7, which influence the spiritual growth, the church member believed that a generous life is the identity as a follower of Christ. Fourth, the members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III on the application of merciful character based on Matthew 5:7 which influence the progress of evangelism, where the church members doubted that they ever won a person to Jesus through baptism by fulfilling their needs. The suggestion based on this research are: first, members of Seventh-Day Adventist Church of the DKI Jakarta Conference Region III should still have confidence on the importance of the merciful life based on Matthew 5:7, which is influential on the spiritual growth. Second, members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III should still have confidence on the importance of merciful based on Matthew 5:7, which influence the evangelism progress. Third, members of Seventh-Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III should still apply the character of merciful on their daily life based on Matthew 5:7, and its influence on spiritual growth. Fourth, the members Seventh-Day Adventist Church of DKI Jakarta Conference Region III must still apply the character of merciful based on Matthew 5:7, because it affects the evangelism. The implication of this study is that the needs of other group members may have relation to the spiritual needs because humans not only live because of the need of the food but also God's word. Through biblical study, caring group members can gain satisfactory from the thirst of God's word, in this case the sacrifice of time and energy needed by the members of the church to won to the souls for Jesus. The merciful of each member is the most important thing to support that strategy. Without the merciful character from the members, the program will not work properly. A spirit of merciful that will lead members to sacrifice both energy, time, place and finances to support the program.
