ABSTRACT RESEARCH DEGREE Universitas Advent Indonesia Faculty of Philosophy Theology Programs Research Title : Analysis of the Saptamarga Church’s Views on the Usage of “Jesus Christ’” Images, based on Isaiah 46:5 Name of Researcher : Edwin Gorat Preceptor I : Stimson Hutagalung, M.Fil Preceptor II : Franklin Hutabarat, Ph.D Date of Completion : May 2014 Keyword : Historical Picture of Jesus, View of the Church on the Usage of “Jesus Christ’s”Images of Jesus, Indescribable God, In this study, the author makes a study at Saptamarga Church, to see their views on the usage of Jesus Christ’s images based on Isaiah 46:5. The researcher focuses this study on four major indicators, namely, the historical figure of Jesus, the Biblical view on the usage of Jesus Christ’s picture, Can God be pictured out? the meanings of to equalize, to compare, and to assume. This study is divided into two parts, namely the theoretical research and field research. The results of theoretical research on the usage of the images of Jesus, based on Isaiah 46:5, namely, the first historical figure of Jesus, namely, the images of Jesus that exist today are the results of mere human engineering. There is no evidence that the picture was genuine and real; second there is no single verse in the Bible that declares or describes the face or image of Jesus in the Bible. So if someone were to draw the face of God then it becomes a folly and uselessness of mere cyan. The results of field research conducted by the author through a questionnaire distributed to the congregation Saptamarga Bandung produced an average yield of respondents understand clearly that the image of Jesus that there now is just a mere result of human engineering. Regarding the Bible's view on the usage of the divine image in the Bible, the average respondent is less well understood, based on the answers. About stating the image of God can be blinded, the average respondent understands very well that the God cannot be pictured, equated, compared, and likened. The purpose of this research is to give sense to the Church of Jesus Saptamarga about the usage of images that exist today. That the image of Jesus that is now merely the result of human engineering. There is no spiritual benefit when seeing a picture of it and it becomes something that is useless. Because God never explains His image in detail in the Bible.
