EFFECTIVENESS OF PEER RESPONSE IN IMPROVING SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY AT SMA SWASTA PEMATANGSIANTAR

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Effectiveness of Peer Response in Improving Senior High School Students’ Writing Ability at SMA Swasta Pematangsiantar. Students have difficulties to think what they want to write because lack of vocabulary in English and poor grammar. Students will work hard on that. This research was designed to find out the effectiveness of using written peer response in teaching writing.The research was started on February at SMA Swasta Pematangsiantar. The respondents of this research were 35 for control group and 35 for experimental group. This research was conducted in ten meetings for each group. This research is experimental research which uses quantitative data and statistical form to calculate the data. The instrument of this study was giving pre-test before treatment and posttest aftertreatment. From the calculation of students’ scores in experimental group, the result showed that there is significant effect by utilizing peer response towards students’ writing ability enhancement, comparing with the effect by utilizing conventional method.
