ABSTRACT EFFECTS OF THREE GRAMS STEVIOL GLYCOSIDE POWDER CONSUMED WITH CARBOHIDRATE INTAKE TOWARDS POSTPRANDIAL HYPERGLIKEMIC PROFILE IN NORMOGLICEMIC SUBJECTS Yessy Saraswati NIM: 1541004 Diabetes with chronic hyperglycemia can be a cause of long-term damage, dysfunction, and failure of organs, especially the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart and blood vessels. Natural sweeteners that are capable of being a substitute for glucose have received special attention from scientists considering that people with diabetes and obesity are increasing. Alternative glucose is intended to come from the Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni plant which has long been used as a traditional medicine. The chemical content that is possessed includes diterpene, triterpene, tannin, stigmasterol, oil, and steviol glycosides. This study was conducted to see whether steviol glycoside powder consumed together with carbohydrate intake can have an effect on postprandial blood glucose levels. This study involved 30 study participants in normoglycemic subjects with age characteristics (19.6 ± 1.7 years), height (164.6 ± 7.5 cm), and body weight (57.6 ± 10.3 kg). By using a glucose tolerance test orally with carbohydrate intake (dextrose monohydrate) 75 grams and 3 grams of powdered steviol glycosides. Postprandial blood glucose levels were measured every minute 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120. Data for each group were: minute 0 control group (102.6 ± 11.74 mg / dL), 30 minutes (171.9 ± 33 , 78 mg / dL), 60 minutes (144.6 ± 31.68 mg / dL), 90 minutes (138.1 ± 34.74 mg / dL), and 120 minutes (117.5 ± 31.89 mg / dL), treatment group minute 0 (102.3 ± 12.03 mg / dL), minute 30 (151.8 ± 25.53 mg / dL), minute 60 (146.0 ± 44.11 mg / dL), 90 minutes (133.9 ± 34.66 mg / dL), and 120 minutes (111.7 ± 11.41 mg / dL). The control group was compared with the treatment group using the Independent Sample T-test statistical test. Based on the results of statistical tests, found significance in minutes 30 p = 0.010 (smaller than α = 0.05). The mean comparison from diagram does not show changes in postprandial blood glucose levels in normoglycemic subjects when consumed together with carbohydrate intake.
