ABSTRACT ANTIBACTERIAL AND ULTRAVIOLET ABSORPTION TEST on THE COMPOSITE of ZnO NANOPARTICLESCARBOXYMETHYL CELLULOSE Yunus Bonhard Nade NIM: 1141003 This research is motivated by the fact that there are still many packaged food decay due to the presence of bacteria and ultraviolet rays that penetrate into food packaging. ZnO nanoparticles were grown by using a microreactor systems on a micrometer-sized tube with micrometer order (500 μm). Subsequently, the absorbance peak of the grown ZnO nanoparticles measured using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer BOECO S-26 in the wavelength range 200—800 nm. The ZnO nanoparticles were then composited with a polymer carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) to form a thin sheet of transparent and the antibacterial properties tested in Escherichia coli. It is provided that the composite nanoparticles of ZnO-CMC has a an antibacterial properties. The strength of its antibacterial properties rely heavily on the variation size of ZnO nanoparticles contained in the composite. It is shown that the variations size of ZnO nanoparticles with the most antibacterial properties is the one with the size of 327 nm absorb peak. The size of ZnO nanoparticle are d = 3,10 nm with the diameter of inhibition zone 2,6 cm. Referring to the results obtained, the composite nanoparticles of ZnO-CMC has the potential to be applied in the manufacture of antibacterial biodegradable packaging. Keywords: Antibacterial, composite, nanoparticles ZnO, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), Escherichia coli.
