THE EFFECTIVENVESS OF CROSSWORD PAZZLE AS COMPARED WTTH TEE CONVENTIONAL METHOD IN TEACHING VOCABULARY TO THE FIFTH GRADE PUPILS OF KARTIKA SARI X-3 PARONGPONG BANDUNG

ABSTRACT This research is titled "Ihe Effectiveness Of Crossword puzzle In Teaching Vocabulary To The Fifth Grade Students Kartika X-3" The research was administered to answer the question "Is crossword prrzzlg x5 compared to other methoCs effective in improvlng student vocabulary achievemer,t?" Thc data were collected ',.?l,-ough pretest and pcsttest, administercd to 35 srudent and the data *'as analyzed by using T-test The participants of this study were the gmde five elercntery prpils of kartika elementary school. in section 5A there were 34 pupils who rvere taught using conventional method and secrion 58 there were 35 pupils who werc taught using crossword puzzie method. The age of the participants were between ll-15 years olC. frcm the computation of the pretest and posrrest, the result mean of piet€st control grouF-<1.17, the result mean of preGst experimental grorp=55.14. and the mean postt€st control group 56.61,the mean posttest experiment grouF63.42. T\e result shows that t "o,-,"a :2.106> t t u.: 1,684. There is significant dilferent crossword puzzle method effective .o improve vocabulary skiils. The researcher hopes that the finding of present crossword pruzle method could give some contribution to the improvement vocabulary especially for the students ofKartika X-3, Parompong, Bandung.
