DESCRIPTIVE WRITING THROUGH PICTURE BY USING THE FIVE SENSES IN ENGLISH CLASSROOM AT SMP NEGERI 3 PARONGPONG

ABSTRACT This study is entitled'Descriptive Writing Through Picture by Using the Table ofthe Five Senses." The participants involved in this study were 60 students of Sekolah Menengah Perama Negeri 3 (SMPN 3) Parongpong, Bandung' They were divided into two groups: controlled group and Trestment group with 30 students in each. This study involved three activities: Pre-test, treatment (the table ofthe five senses) for treatment group and pos-tesr The participants were asked to wrirc descriptive essay given in pre-test and post-test. During the implementation, the participants were taught d€scriptive writing by using different method for each group. The rcsult of this study showed the mean of Pre-test for control grotp is 53.5 and the mean of post-test is 73.8. The mean of pre-test for treatment grop is 63.6 and the mean of post-test is 89. The result showed that students who were given the table of the five senses got higber descriptive writing achievement compared to tbe students who were not given the table of the five senses. They only describe whar they see. In other words, providing the table of the five senses will be effective to help students develop their imagination.
