Abstract THE EFFECT OF CINNAMON (Cinnamomum Burmannii) CONSUMED AT THE INTAKE OF LUCOSE TO ALTERATION IN POSTPRANDIAL BLOOD GLUCOSE IN TYPE 2 DIABETICS Zepi Elvayeta Malau NIM : 1341016 Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that is most common now in the world. It is characterized by abnormalities in the metabolism of carbohydrate, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism that cause hyperglycaemia. Cinnamon contains volatile oils such as cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, transcinnamic acid. Cinnamon also contains methyl hydroxy chalcone polymer (MHCP) which is an effective insulin mimetic and which is an active substance that has antidiabetic effects. This study was done to see if cinnamon taken glucose can affect postprandial blood glucose alteration. This experimental study involved 60 subjects with diabetes at the age characteristics (58.87 ± 10.18 years), weight (55.80 ± 9.64 kg), and height (147.41 ± 27.32 cm) using the method of oral glucose tolerance test with glucose intake of 75 grams and 6 grams of cinnamon powder. Postprandial blood glucose was measured at the point minutes of 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 post-treatment. Data per group; 0th minute glucose control (193.5 ± 79.17 mg/dL), 30th minute (284.43 ± 83.14 mg/dL), 60th minute (358.8 ± 95.74 mg/dL), 90th minute (370.83 ± 98.23 mg/dL) and 120th minute (357.76 ± 102.20 mg/dL); treatment of glucose + cinnamon 0th minute (220.46 ± 89.95 mg/dL), 30th minute (333.43 ± 93.48 mg/dL), 60 th minute (385.06 ± 111.39 mg/dL), 90th minute (393.33 ± 124, 07 mg/dL) and 120th minute (367.80 ± 120.90 mg/dL). The control group was compared to the experimental group by using statistical test of independent samples t-test with significant differences in the 30th minute (ƿ <0.05), namely (0,033). Diagram mean comparison of cinnamon was showed a increase in blood glucose levels in diabetics when consumed together with glucose wood. Keywords: cinnamon, hyperglycemia, diabetes mellitus
