ABSTRACT IMPACT AFRIKA LEAF POWDERS (VERNONIAAMIGDALINA) CONSUMED TOGETHER WITH GLUCOSE TO THE BLOOD GLUCOSE PROFILE OF POSTPRANDIAL NORMOGLYCEMIC SUBJECT Chania Dwi Mentary NIM : 1441010 Normal blood glucose levels are a requirement to be healthy. Glucose is formed from foods consumed daily consisting of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Glucose is a group of simple carbohydrate compounds or monosaccharides. Glucose serves as a source of energy for brain cells, nerve cells, and red blood cells. High or low blood glucose levels can disrupt the metabolism in the body. High blood glucose levels are caused by pancreatic β cell dysfunction and insulin resistance, it remains a serious health problem. One way that can be used to overcome this health problem is to consume herbal plants Vernonia Amigdalina. Vernonia Amigdalina leaves contain flavonoids, saponins, polyphenols, and tannins that can increase insulin production. This study used a sample of 30 normoglycemic men aged 18-26 years, mean body weight 62,9 ± 8,81, mean height 166,2 ± 5,71, average beats 75.3 ± 12, 06, systolic blood pressure averaged 118,6 ± 8,19, average diastolic blood pressure 80,1 ± 8,19, and normal body mass index. There were two groups in this study the glucose control group and the Vernonia Amigdalina treatment group. Using One Way ANOVA test. Blood glucose levels in the control group at minute 30,60,90, and 120 were 158,6 ± 37,21, 146,7 ± 21,00, 131,5 ± 17,90, 116,1 ± 11,41. Blood glucose levels in the African leaf treatment arm at minute 30,60,90, and 120 were 135,9 ± 11,3, 135,1 ± 17,39, 118,3 ± 11,17, 96,7 ± 20,35. The Independent Samples T-Test was used to compare blood glucose levels in the glucose control group and the African leaf treatment group, found that ρ<0.05, so it can be concluded that African leaf consumed in conjunction with glucose intake may suppress postprandial blood glucose levels. Keywords: vernonia amigdalina, blood glucose, postprandial, normoglycemic
