XMLABSTRACT Thesis Title : PERCEPTION OF SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH MEMBERS OF THE AREA XV OF JAKARTA CONFERENCE CONCERNING THE ROLE OF ELDERLY MEMBERS IN EVANGELISM BASED ON THE PHILOSOPHY IN MATTHEW 28:19-20 Researcher : Eko Surono Supervisor : Dr. RW. Sagala, MPTh Date of Completion : Juni, 2018 University : Indonesia Adventist University Human being is God's creation according to God's image. Human grows physically, spiritually, socially and mentally. In the course of his life, human is experiencing the process of birth, getting bigger and being older. In every phase of life, human has responsibility that should be done according to the talents given since he/she was born. And one of the responsibilities is to tell the truth of Salvation. Matthew 28: 19-20 is the great commission given by Jesus Christ to everyone who has been saved from sin. This mandates is for everyone without looking ages and physically body. Everyone who feels the transformation of Salvation and saved from sin to the New Life is obligated to do the evangelism nor also for the older people. The purpose of the research and study is to oversee clearly that the elder of church members still could participate in the evangelism work. The calling and life experiences in God’s truth should be told to everybody. The method used in this research is Descriptive Research method which gives us a wider knowledge, understanding and explanation about the importance of the elder participation in evangelism. The first conclusion is that people nowadays have large understanding about the elder church members that they still have the spirit and ability to serve the Lord and they still have power to work together and involve in every church activities. Second is that mostly people in the church forget about involving the elders in evangelism and how to draw people to Jesus. And therefore, the elder church members don’t involve much in the evangelism planning especially in how to draw people to Jesus with the perspective that they have deeper ministry. Third is that people nowadays have less acceptance for the elders’ advices in Church ministry especially in evangelism and how to draw people to Jesus. Most of the people in the church feel that the elders’ advices are critics to them and they are talkative persons with the result 4.33 from the research made. Church congregations don’t full accept that the elders in the church can do evangelism through personal ministry. In my opinion upon the research made that I suggest, first, giving full attention to the elders in the church. With their physically limitations, the other church members should accompany them patiently and understand their slow motion because of their conditions. Second suggestion is giving direction to the elders that Evangelism in a growing ministry in the church and hope that the elders can understand it slowly and surely will understand it at the end. Third is the other church members should accept the elders’ opinions about the evangelism according to their understanding and guide them to accept the current way of evangelism that could be accepted by the elders. From the research, I could take some implications. First implication is the existence of the elders couldn’t stop them to do the evangelism. Evangelism is a mandatory responsibility to the believers, so that every church member that has been redeemed by the blood of the Jesus Christ has the chance to do the evangelism. The death of Jesus Christ on the cross is the proof that the planning of Salvation is made so everyone who believe in Him should not be perished. Second, involving actively for the elders in every church activities especially in Evangelism whether inside or outside ministry. Third, continually support the elders that the church still needs them in evangelism as God said that we need to do the ministry during our life in this earth.
