IMPROVING VOCABULARY THROUGH CODE-MIXINGINSTRUCTION AMONG FIRST YEAR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL AT LAB-SCHOOL UNAI BANDUNG

ABSTRACT This study investigated the effectiveness of code-mixing instruction among First Year Junior High School at lab-school UNAI Bandung. Thus the study intend to answer the following Question "ls code-mixing effective in improving the vocabulary oi the participants?". To answer the question above, the researcher did three major activities namely Pre-iest, implementation of Code-nnixing I'rstruction and Post-test. The participants were instructed to do vocabulary test of completiorr and paraphrase in pre-test and post-test. The complementation of Code-mixing instruction was done in a month, (April 2007) The calculated data between pr€-test and post-test are as follow; pre-test has a mean of 18,52, maximum scorc 27,and the minimum is score 7 after the matnent, the mean of the Post-test is 22,96, and tlie maximum score is 30 and the minimum is score 13. The effectiveness of code-mixing instnrction in, improving vocabular-w teaming can be prove by the Gain lndex score anci the mean is 4,42' From Wilcoxon test showed there was a significant difference before giving the tiea-.rn3;1t enJ after gi.,,ing the treatrnent.
