ABSTRACT THEOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OE EXEMPLARY PASTOR AS SHEPHERD BASE ON I TIMOTHY 4:12 IN SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH SURABAYA DISTRICT, EASTERN JAVA CONFERENCE Eben Eser Sembiring Philosophy Nainggo.l-an, MPS 2015 Master of Dr. B. D April 17, The existence of pastor as a shepherd of a church is to serve God's peop.Ie as His sheep which have to be well Iooked after- It's undeniable that shepherd's service is a nice, noble, and challenging duty. It's because they serve any kinds of members' characters which need attention, compassion and corunitment. Based on Paul's letter to Timothy, wri-tten in I Timothy 4:12, tl 's stated that as a shepherd of a church who serves God's people, he should be a good figure to them especially those who are served. Pauf's advice to Timothy is intended to prepare a young Timothy to be a sbepherd of church in Ephesus - It's done because PauI planned to Leave that churchTimothy was around 33 years old when Paul wrote a letter to hj-m as a shepherd message. According to canonical New Tastement, he lras too young to be a shepherd. That's why Paul advised Timothy by say:-ng that although he was still young, he should be a good example for God's followers. Being a good example means beinq a person whose atti-tude, behavior and character could be followed. Pastor exemplary as a church shepherd 1s absolutely expected for the sake of his success in his service. If a pastor's lj-fe can be example neither in his service nor in his family, he will fail in being church shepherd. The writer is interested to conduct a research on exemplary which should be owned by each pastor as a church shepherd as PauI said to Timothy in hrs .Ietter. The !{ri-ter often hears statements from church members about church shepherd who turns out to be out of their expectation. The respondents surveyed by the writer are the members of SDA church in Surabaya district of Eastern Java Conference. It's divided into 17 churches in Surabaya city. The wr.iter took about 40% out of 375 members of church boards, they are 150 people. In this research, the writer hefd a survey towards members of church councils about shepherd exemplary as a pastor of a church. The wr:iter wants to know about thelr views and evaluations concerning with pastor exemplary as a church shepherd in Surabaya churches. The theo.l-ogy analisys slde in this research is divided into 3 parts : Eirst : The analysis to be a good example in pastor life as a shepherd based on 1 Timothy 4:12 tn SDA church in Surabaya District of eastern java conference. Second : The analysis to be a good example in serving as a shepherd based on1 Timothy 4: 12 in SDA church in Surabaya District of Eastern Java Conference' Third : The analysis to be a good figure in family life as a shepherd based on 1 Timothy 4:72 ia SDA church in Surabaya District of Eastern Java Conference. The average of each indicator is 3, 76. It means that the respondents agree to pastor's exemplary as a church shepherd based on I Timothy 4:72. Il can be interpreted that pastors in Surabaya district are still good examples form their private life side, serving l-ife side as well as family Iife side.
