RESEARCH ABSTRACT OF POST GRADUATE PROGRAM OE PHILOSOPHY EAKULTY ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY OF INDONESIA TitIe TiiE INELUENCE OF CHURCH MEMBER'S PARTISIPATION THROUGH PERSONAI EVANGEIISM TO CHRUCH GROWTH IN SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH IN ASAHAN DISTRICT The increase in church through Baptists for Iast five years in Seventh-day Adventist church in Asahan District North sumatera Mission, consisting six smal1 churches (average 20 people/year). There arises question why the number of baptisEs in the district was low? while evangeJ-ism program and method were always implemented each year. one of evangelism method that was effectively expected to increase church members, programrning in aI1 districEs/churches in North Sumatera Mission was Personal Evangelism. connected with the above case, some experts contributed thej"r opinion, that Personal Evangelism was responsibility of aLl God's people that had revealed themsel-ves as Chr.ist Jesus' followers to bring gospe.I to the heathen, could be implemented through tefl-ing and expressing what we had already known as spiritual gift had by each. When implementing the evangelism need method and strategy that was apt through comprehending fieId, approach, persuasion, under Spirit's guidance. By involving aIl church members in this method would yield increasing and healthy church. Personal Evangelism is the Biblical concept, it is found in the OLd Testament Bible and New Testament as well-. There are expressed evangefism shoul-d be done to al-.1, human being by showing sympathy through loving service as a Ilfe style. and teaching Christ to others where they are w.ith apt method, the it will guide them to precise understanding toward God. The result of bibliography research, the writer thenf implementing to the churches in the dj-strict. Thj"s research applied questionnaire, consistj,ng two groups such as: Firstly, to 120 people to church's members and coll-ected 102 questionnaires and secondly, questionnaj-res for 104 to the Baptists during the research and a1I were collected. This research also were conducted through church records. The data obtained from the questj,onnaires of the first group found that: The church members generally had known the BiblicaI evangelisrn principaJ. and the meaning of Personal Evangelism, church members were stil-1 less active to do personal- evangelism but the active were stj.Il pastor and church elders, 888 while the others only 188. Personal evangelism has a large j-nf luence in outreaching to add church members (73t) . And the second questionnaire found that 73t respondent confessed that become church members through Personal Evangelism services . Conclusion of this research was Personaf Evangelism constituted one of evangelism activity important to church, as a responsibility of each God's people to make know Christ to others, by mean of that would increase church's members growth. Church members had known biblical principal of evangelism as general, and the important of Personal Evangel-ism. Church melrbers were still less active to do Personal Evangel-ism. Personal Evangelism had big infl,uence to yield church's members increase.
