FACTORS AFFECTING STUDENTS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN ENGLISH LEARNING AND ITS CORRELATION

ABSTRACT This study discussed about the factors affecting m.rdents' academic achievement in English learning and its correlation. The main purpose of this srudy was to determine which factor mostly affects snrdents' academic achievement in English learning. This study involved five senior high schools in Bandung, Indonesia They are SMA Negeri I Parongbang, SMA Negeri 1 Bandung, SMA Negeri 2 Bandung, SMA Negeri 4 Bandung and SMA Negeri 5 Bandung. The pilot test was conducted in SMA Negeri I Parongbang and the actual test in other schools. In the actual test, the total numbers ofrespondents were 80 from grade )il. The research instrument was questionnaire. According to factor analysis, extrinsic motivation factor is the most dominant factor that affects snrdents' academic achievement in English learning. The researcher also found that there were three factors that have significant relationship with students' academic achievement in English leaming They are lntrinsic motivatioq physical healtlq and extrinsic motivation Key words: factors; academic achievement, English leaming
