THE USE OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS THROUGH MULTIMEDIA ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ENHANCEMENT

ABSTRACT THE USE OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS THROUGH MULTIMEDIA ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ENHANCEMENT Gabriellie Juliana Purba ID 1621008 This study aimed to find out the use of Authentic Materials through Multimedia on students’ vocabulary enhancement especially in the rural area. The sample in this research are 10th grade students from two classes at SMAN 1 Parongpong, Bandung Barat. The students were divided into two groups by the researcher, one class learns using Authentic Material through Multimedia and the other class learns Authentic Material. This study used quantitative research method and comparative design by using pre-test and post- test. The instrument used for this study is vocabulary test, which contained of 30 questions and a questionnaire which contained of 10 questions. The result of this study shows that both groups of students could enhanced their vocabulary ability, the mean score of pre-test in group of Authentic Material through Multimedia is 53.93 and from group Authentic Material is 59,97, it means that the initial ability of group Authentic Materials is higher than group Authentic Materials through Multimedia. Another result showed that the significant value 0.002 is smaller than α 0.05 which mean vocabulary enhancement on students who were taught using Authentic Materials through Multimedia is better than who were taught using Authentic Materials, and there were positive responses concerning Authentic Material through Multimedia from students to enhance their vocabulary ability on students’ vocabulary enhancement. In summary, the findings indicated that authentic materials through multimedia were effective in helping students to enhance and enrich their vocabulary acquisition.
