ABSTRACT IMPROVING STUDENTS’ MATHEMATICAL COMMUNICATION ABILITY THROUGH COOPERATIVE LEARNING MODEL OF STUDENT TEAMS ACHIEVEMENT DIVISION AND BUZZ GROUP TYPE (Comparative Study for VII SMPN 3 Bandung Barat) Ellen Nadya Hutapea NIM: 1422005 This study aims to improve the mathematical communication skills of junior high school students. This research uses cooperative learning model of Student Teams Achievement Division and Buzz Group type. This research uses two classes namely class VIIA and VIIE SMPN 3 Parongpong, Bandung Barat. The test instrument is a test of mathematical communication ability on the subject of the presentation of the data. A non test instrument is a questionnaire of student responses to know their preferences and benefits to mathematical learning. This study uses statistical test to know whether the data is normal and has significance or not. The test used is t-test at significant level (α= 0,05). Research results show that: 1) Mathematical communication ability students on cooperative learning before obtaining the Student Teams Achievement Division and Buzz Group type is no difference and is at a low category. Improvement on mathematical communication of students who acquire cooperative learning model type Student Teams Achievement Division and Buzz Group type increase in high category, 2) There is no significant difference in the improvement on students’ mathematical communication ability between students who acquire cooperative learning model of Student Teams Achievement Division and Buzz Group type, 3) Student response questionnaire shows students are really like of cooperative learning model Student Teams Achievement Division and Buzz Group type.
