The implementation of evangelism done by the Seventh-Day Adventists Church in East Java Province was begun in Sumber Wekas in 1908. It has been growing well since then. About lorty years later, in 1947, the Seventh-Day Adventists Church was established in Probolinggo. Since that time the evangelization started to suffer some ups and downs. There are many lactors affecting the progress of evangelization to Probolinggo Tribes in East Java, among others are human resources, cultural barriers, and church financ ia I problem. Pastors or evangelists need to do contextua lization to avoid the cultural barriers, by spreading the Gospel using an approach that can be understood and accepted by the society. This process may be done by developing a good rclationship with the socicty. Therefore, proper momentum is needed to develop l PERPUSTAKAAN UNAI friendship as a gatewav lor evangelization. One of the ways to build a good relationship is involvement in many social activities in the society, such as helping to build houses, helping sick people and those who are in need'
