ABSTRACT COMPARISON OF BLOOD CHOLESTEROL LEVELS IN ELDERLY BASED ON SPORTS FREQUENCY Yulia Resti Tamba RH NIM: 1651108 Total cholesterol in the blood is very influential on the formation of plaque on the walls of blood vessels. Cholesterol levels that exceed normal limits will trigger the process of atherosclerosis. In the elderly many changes that occur in the elderly include changes in body composition, muscles, bones and joints, cardiovascular system, respiration and cognition. Efforts to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood and efforts to maintain, improve health and physical fitness for the elderly one of them by exercising is aerobic exercise. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a significant difference in the blood cholesterol level of the elderly who had enough exercise frequency and the elderly who had less exercise frequency in Cihanjuang Rahayu Village. This research is quantitative descriptive with Purposive Sampling sampling technique. Respondents are elderly at UNAI GOR, in front of UNAI Clinic and around 40 villages of Cihanjuang Rahayu Village. Cholesterol levels were measured after fasting for approximately 8 hours, that is 20 respondents who did enough exercise and 20 respondents who did less exercise frequency. The results of the study were analyzed by bivariate test and t test (Independent T-Test). Based on the research, the results showed that the elderly with sufficient frequency of exercise as many as 15 people had normal cholesterol levels and less exercise frequency as many as 12 people had upper and high threshold cholesterol levels. The results of the two variables were analyzed using the T Test and showed a level of sig = 0.355> 0.05. In conclusion there is no significant comparison between the elderly who exercise enough frequency with the elderly who exercise less frequency. However, elderly who exercise with sufficient frequency have cholesterol levels in the normal category, whereas elderly who exercise less frequency have cholesterol levels in the upper and high threshold categories. Keywords: cholesterol levels, elderly, exercise
