TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN TENTANG BAHAYA MEROKOK SEBELUM DAN SESUDAH PENYULUHAN DI SD ADVENT PARONGPONG UNIVERSITAS ADVENT INDONESIA

ABSTRACT LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE DANGERS OF SMOKING BEFORE AND AFTER COUNSELLING AT PARONGPONG ADVENTIST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S STUDENTS Aprida Nabut NIM: 1551073 This research is motivated by a note from Riskesdas (2010) that the age of the first time someone tried to smoke is before the age of 19 years. DepKes (2012) notes that children are individuals who need to be protected from the dangers of smoking. The effort that can be done is through health promotion. This study was conducted to obtain a description of the level of knowledge about the dangers of smoking before and after counseling at Parongpong Adventist Elementary School’s students. The method used in this research is descriptive correlation. Sample used in this research are 6th grade students in Parongpong Adventist Elementary School with nonprobability sampling method which is chosen by saturated sampling. The instrument used is a knowledge level questionnaire about the dangers of smoking taken from Ellizabet (2010) with 10 questions. The result of this research shows that there is a difference of knowledge level about the dangers of smoking before and after counseling in Parongpong Adventist Elementary School’s students with increase of difference value before and after 12,1% and significant value tcount < 0.05. Advice that can be given to Principal School of Parongpong Adventist Elementary School, hopefully this research can be use as input to provide incentive education to the students in order to increase the level of knowledge about the dangers of smoking. For nurses and other health workers, it may be use as an early effort to reduce the incidence of smoking through the health promotion, especially to school-age children.
