ABSTRACT THE EFFECT OF LAVENDER ESSENCE AROMATHERAPY INHALATION AGAINST MODERATE DISMENORRHEA ON THE STUDENTS LIVING AT ESTHER DORMITORY AT ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY OF INDONESIA Meiky Heldi Taebenu NIM: 1251067 Aromatherapy inhalation using lavender essence can decrease the severity of dysmenorrhea (Dehkordi (2014) and Fajriyah (2015)). The purpose of this research is to know the difference of the severity of dysmenorrhea before and after the inhalation therapy of lavender essence. The research method that is used is one group pre-test and post-test design. The population in this research is the students living at ester dorm at Adventist university of Indonesia. The amount of subjects in this research is 20 students chosen using purposive sampling. The instruments used are the numercial rating scale (NRS) observation sheet. The tools and materials used is lavender essence aromatherapy, water, aromatherapy furnace, a candle, matches, measurement cup, straw, stopwatch or watch. To get the severity of dysmenorrhea data is processed using the mean formula, then continued using the paired-t test. The result shows the severity of dysmenorrhea before lavender essence aromatherapy inhalation 4,8 is categorized moderate dysmenorrhea and after lavender essence aromatherapy inhalation for 20 minutes has decreased to 2,1 that is categorized mild dysmenorrhea and the t-count value (15, 069) > t-table (2, 093) with the trust rate is 95% (α = 0,05) which means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. The conclusion of this research is that there is a difference between the severity of dysmenorrhea before and after lavender essence aromatherapy inhalation on the students at esther dormitory at Adventist University of Indonesia.
