ABSTRACT EFFECTIVENESS OF UPRIGHT HOLDING ON DECREASING PAIN RESPONSE IN INFANT IMMUNIZATION PROCEDURES AT WORK AREA OF PUSKESMAS PARONGPONG Yohana Ekaristi Sagala NIM: 1251053 Immunization injection causes infants pain. Infants can’t show pain verbally, so it requires proper handling. One method that can be used is upright holding. Upright holding helps reduce pain rather than let infant lying on bed. The intervention hasn’t been used in Puskesmas Parongpong as management of pain during the immunization procedure. This study was conducted to determine differences pain response on infants given intervention upright holding and who are not given the intervention upright holding in immunization procedure at Puskesmas Parongpong. This study was experimental with Posttest Only Design. This study was done by positioning an infant cuddled in mom's lap when the injection for the intervention group and for control group, infants were lying on bed. Subjects were 20 infant which divided into two groups: 10 subjects in the intervention group and 10 subjects in the control group, selected by using purposive sampling method to infants who received injection of immunization in Puskesmas Parongpong. Pain response of the subject measured by using Face, Leg, Activity, Cry, Consolability (FLACC). Data acquisition response to pain in the intervention group and the control group was calculated using the formula mode, then followed by test of Mann-Whitney. This research results that the value of p=0.000 < α=0.05, this means H0 is rejected. This shows that there are significant differences in pain response of infants given intervention upright holding and who are not given intervention upright holding on immunization procedure in Puskesmas Parongpong.
