ABSTRAK EFFECTIVENESS OF THE STEW OF PERIWINKLE (CATHARANTHUS ROSEUS)ON REDUCING BLOOD TOTAL CHOLESTEROL LEVEL OF MALE WISTAR RATS: HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA MODEL Mody Betwan Sattu NIM:1151053 Hypercholesterolemia is one of the triggering factors for high number of deaths caused by cardiovascular disease in the world. The method used is an experimental laboratory using rat wistar strain. A total of 15 male rats were divided into three groups: control group, the water treatment group and the periwinkle treatment group. Each group consisting of 5 male rats. The control group was given normal food and mineral water, water treatment group given cholesterol foods and mineral water, and the treatment group given cholesterol foods and stew of periwinkle as much as 3.6 cc / day. This treatment is done after 7 days of adaptation process and 14 days cholesterol feeding and treatment process. Examination of blood total cholesterol levels done on day 22. Data acquisition blood total cholesterol levels is calculated using the mean, and then to look for differences through independent t-test. These results indicate the average water treatment group blood total cholesterol levels was 136.8 mg / dL. The results of the study treatment groups periwinkle for total blood cholesterol levels adalah110.2 mg / dL. Statistical test results for total blood cholesterol levels is the t value (7920)> t table (2,776), then H0 is rejected) (Ha is accepted) with significance at a level of 95% or α = 0.05.
