ABSTRACT PHENOMENOLOGY OF CHARACTERISTICS OF CHRISTIAN AND CATHOLIC NURSES Ellen Novelita Hutauruk NIM: 1251019 Religion is a part of culture according to Leininger. Christian and Catholic nurses need to understand their own cultural background because it affects communication, it understands information, and it considers the race, ethnicity, and culture of the client so as to create a comprehensive and holistic service. This study was conducted to explore the patterns of experience of Christian and Catholic nurses which were then categorized into general and specific characteristics. The design of the study involved the qualitative method with phenomenological approach. Data results from the interview were analyzed using the nine stages of the Colaizzi method. From the transcripted verbatim emerged three themes and eleven categories, namely nursing actions in the perspective of Christian and Catholic nurses, emotional aspects of Christian and Catholic nurses in nursing services and nursing preparation in Christian and Catholic nursing. Eleven categories were found, including services to individuals and families, whether healthy or sick, whether needed or not needed; interaction; fulfillment of needs; the basic attitude of the nurse; religion, sincerity; non-discrimination; care; empathy; sensitivity and integration of trust into the curriculum and nursing practice. The advice given to the field of nursing is for Christian and Catholic nurses to better recognize, carry out and maintain the characteristics possessed and for those characteristics to be used as a foundation in therapeutic purposes.
