ABSTRACT Thesis Title : THE IMPACT OF PASTOR’S LEADERSHIP IN SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH MEMBERS’ SPIRITUAL GROWTH IN JAKARTA LOCAL CONFERENCE BASED ON EXODUS 18:21 Researcher : Nixon Moniaga Degree : Masteral science Of Phylosophy Advisor : Dr. Bartolomeus D. Nainggolan, MPS Submission date : May 11, 2017 Leadership is one the important parts in the service of a servant of God who is given the trust to lead a church. Therefore, he should have a concrete concept in leading his members. The concept should be built on research, meditation and personal conviction that are applied in his daily life of faith. Research Problem First, pastor has insufficient preparation in delivering the Word of God and is not being strict in complying the Bible principles and church regulations, these factors cause ineffective impact on the church members’ spiritual growth. Second, pastor’s lack of understanding that he was actually called for this holy service, and should not be merely considered as ordinary duties in giving sermons on Sabbaths and every end of the month, he will go to Jakarta Local Conference to collect his payroll. Third, pastor does not gain the respect from his church members because in doing home visitations, he prefers to visit those members with good financial condition with great expectation that he will receive some cash in return for his service. A leadership that is not built on the truth of God’s word is a great lie that must be accounted before God. Therefore, as servant of God, pastor has to be dare and honest in expressing his personal conviction. External leadership impact, whether it’s denominational or personal, must be conducted biblically to give significant impact to the spiritual growth of all church members. In consequence, it will result to a sincere conviction and dedication in the heart of the every servant of God, himself. This research is also considered as a source of information to reassure the readers on the impact of the pastor’s leadership to the church members’ spiritual growth, specifically in Region 7 of Jakarta Local Conference. Researcher realizes that there are many available resources on the impact of pastor’s leadership. Hence, this research specifically elaborates its related impact to the church members’ spiritual growth in Region 7 of Jakarta Local Conference. Then the researcher conducted a comparison with regards to the direct pastor’s leadership in its church to find out the weakness and strength of each leader. Consequently, giving the opportunity to the readers to give objective evaluation. Research Method This research uses natural approach. An approach that is based on qualitative method. In this research, all data are gathered using descriptive way, as well as the research result report. A qualitative approach requires the researcher to focus on the data source. It’s important, as this research is based on Jethro’s advice to Moses which is considered good in the bible. Findings & Conclusion First, the impact of pastor’s leadership to the church members’ spiritual growth is 78.7%. Second, church members are happy with a determined pastor who adheres to the Bible principles and Church regulations, because they believe pastor should be a good leader and respectful figure in the church. Third, church members are pleased with a pastor who gives sermon not just to please the congregation, but also to rebuke any misbehavior, church members feel blessed for a pastor who is always well prepared in feeding them with spiritual food that leads them to Christ and boost up their spiritual growth, especially in Region 7 of Jakarta Local Conference. Despite of the fact that the pastor’s leadership has shown a significant impact to church members’ spiritual growth in Region 7 of Jakarta Local Conference, there is still another 21.3% factors that must be discovered and analysed to reach a 100% target of church members’ spiritual growth.
