ABSTRACT KNOWLEDGE OF MYOPIA IN SMP NEGERI 1 PARONGPONG, DISTRICT WEST BANDUNG DESMA PASARIBU NIM: 1651054 The results of preliminary studies conducted by researchers on 10 students in grade 1 in SMP Negeri 1 Parongpong, found two people who experienced decreased vision acuity of 25/20. They say that they are hard to see the writing on the board clearly but they do not know what to do related to the condition. The aim of this study is to determine the knowledge of myopia in SMP Negeri 1 Parongpong, District West Bandung. This study was an experimental research design with pre-post test design in one group (one-group pre-post test design). This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Parongpong District West Bandung in March 31, 2017. This study used balanced sampling (proportional sampling) to take the sample. The number of samples in this study was 94 people. Data were collected using a test consisting of 20 questions that had been tested for validity and reliability. Validation value between 0.380-0.711 and reliability value is 0.850. The data has been collected and then processed by using the formula of knowledge percentage and paired t-test. The calculation result shows that knowledge about miopi before health counseling is enough with 62% percentage. The knowledge after counseling was good with 89.47% percentage. The result of this study showed a significant difference of knowledge about myopia in SMP Negeri 1 Parongpong before and after health counseling with t-count of 17,114 at 95% confidence level or α = 0,05.
