ABSTRACT BEHAVIORAL STUDY AND SEVERITY OF ASTIGMATISM AND MYOPI OF THE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AT UNIVERSITAS ADVENT INDONESIA: AS A BASIC TO DESIGN THE PREVENTIVE NURSING APPROACH JANE PLITA AGUSTINA SIBAGARIANG NIM: 1451051 Based on preliminary study result from observation at Universitas Advent Indonesia (UNAI) found that there are many university students who use glasses as a help tool to see. There are about 66 people out of 100 university students were studying at 9 classrooms at UNAI using glasses as a help tool to see when studying in the classroom or in everyday activities. The purpose of this study is to look at the risk factors that may cause the eye damage especially astigmatism and myopi toward the university students at Universitas Advent Indonesia in nursing preventive approach to the severity of astigmatism and myopi. The method used in this study is descriptive correlational, with collecting samples method of Accidental Sampling. The data obtained in this study is attained from the results of eye-test by using Trial Lens Set which is projected by the expert and licensed person and from Self-Checklist filled by the respondents, and analyzed by Person Product Moment formula by using SPSS. The result shows that there is a correlation between behavioral description with the severity of astigmatism and myopi with significance value of (p) = 0,037 and 0,036, where p-value is <0,05. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between learning behavior and reading from book and handphone with right eye myopi. From these results the researcher suggestion to the respondents are to reduce the behaviour description that can increase the severity of astigmatism and myopi and to do PROMKES as early as possible about how to prevent the increasing of the severity of astigmatism and myopi.
