INVESTIGASI KANDUNGAN ASAM LEMAK BEBAS PADA MINYAK HASIL EKSTRAKSI DARI BIJI BUAH KEMIRI (ALEURITES MOLUCCANUS)
XMLABSTRACT INVESTIGATION OF FREE FATTY ACID CONTENT IN EXTRACTION OIL FROM CANDLENUT F SEEDS (ALEURITES MOLUCCANUS) To answer the future challenges related to reduced diesel fuel reserves, making biodiesel is the solution because biodiesel can replace diesel fuel. Currently biodiesel can be produced, but its capacity is still limited. Biodiesel can be produced by transesterifying oil. Primarily, the oil used is oil extracted from oil palm fruit. The use of palm oil to produce biodiesel in large quantities will cause problems because palm oil is also the main source of cooking oil. Therefore a search for new oil sources must be carried out. Oil extracted from candlenut is the answer that can be chosen. Pecan fruit has a very high oil content. The extract process is very simple. In order to be used as a raw material for the manufacture of extracted candlenut biodiesel, it must be free from the content of free fatty acids (FFA). The purpose of this study is to produce oil from candlenut seeds that are free from the content of free fatty acids (Free Fatty Acid, FFA). The content of free fatty acids in oil is very dependent on the extraction technique. In this study three extraction techniques have been used to produce oil from candlenut, namely: (1) using microwaves, (2) with traditional techniques without using water, and (3) using traditional techniques using water. Extracted oils from these three methods have been investigated to determine the content of free fatty acids. From the results of FTIR characterization, it shows that all the oil extracted using the three methods above contains FFA. Qualitatively, the FTIR results show that traditionally extracted oil, whether or not using water, has less FAA content than the oil extracted using microwaves. Meanwhile, among traditionally extracted oils, extraction using water produces less FAA Keywords: Candlenut oil, extraction, free fatty acids, biodiesel.
