THE EFFECT OF STORYTELLING ON VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT AMONG THE YOLTNG LEARNERS
XMLABSTRACT This study is entitled "The effect of storytelling on vocabulary achievement among the yormg leamers" was applied to examined storytelling method on vocabulary achievement at Kartika Elementary School, Paronpong, Bandung. The respondents were gade 4 B and grade 4 C students. Section B as the control group was us€d conventional method and the section C was used storytelling method. The researcher only gave fiction stories. The result ofthis study are obtained as follorvs: The mean of the pre{est ofcontrol group was 53.61 and the mean of the pre-test of experimental group was 60.68. After the treatment the mean of the post-test of control group was 61.25 the mean ofthe post-test of experimental group was 76.89. For control group the mean gain score was .13638 and.4064l for experimental group. Two groupshad normality data and homogeneity data, therefore was used independent t-test using o : .05. Significance score of the t-test was .000. Ho is rejected if sipificance score < o and a : .05. It means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, there is significant difference after gave storytelling treafinent. From both methods, storytelling could increase the pupils' vocabulary knowledge. Itis supported by the study of Abdulla (2012) that tkough storytelling the children can learn the meaning of the words, because storytelling has a po\yer to transltr the words in thet brains.
