A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN COLLABORATIVE STRATEGIC READING (CSR) AND KNOW-WANT-LEARNED (KWL) IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION
XMLABSTRACT A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN COLLABORATIVE STRATEGIC READING (CSR) AND KNOW-WANT-LEARNED (KWL) IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION Elisabeth Sinaga ID 1521009 The purpose of this study is to find out the improvement of students’ reading comprehension between those who acquire Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) and those who acquire Know-Want-Learned (KWL) strategy. This study used quantitative research method and comparative design by measuring the achievement of pre-test and post-test. The participants of the study were 60 students’ of Grade VIII of SMP N 3 Parongpong, Bandung Barat in grade VIII C and VIII E. They were divided into 2 groups. The students of grade VIII C acquired CSR while the students of grade VIII E acquired KWL. The instrument used in this research is reading comprehension Test. The result of this study shows that there is no significant difference on students reading comprehension improvement between those who were taught CSR and those who were taught KWL. Furthermore, this research shows that the result of student’ respond toward CSR class is 75.65% and students respond toward KWL class is 81.98%, which means both classes fall on good category concerning to the two strategies applied in improving students’ reading comprehension.
