ABSTRACT COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE IMPROVEMENT OF STUDENTS’ MATHEMATICAL PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY ON JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL TYPE THROUGH COOPERATIVE LEARNING MODEL STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT DIVISION TEAMS (STAD) AND JIGSAW II Desti Naissela Lalihatu 1222004 This research is a quantitative research with comparative design, aimed to analyze the difference on the students problem solving ability enchancement throught cooperative learning model type Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) and Jigsaw II, as well as the students' response to cooperative learning model STAD and Jigsaw II. The samples used were students of SMPN 16 Surakarta, and divided into two groups. Group 1 was given the STAD cooperative learning model. Group 2 was given the Jigsaw II cooperative learning model. The results showed that: (1) There is a significant differences in the students problem solving ability enchancement between students who are tought using STAD and students who are tought using Jigsaw II, (2) the students in both groups were realy like the learning model they have experienced.
