ABSTRACT IMPROVING STUDENTS METHEMATICAL COMMUNICATION ABILITY THROUGH CORE AND SQ4R LEARNING (Comparative Study for VIII SMPN 26 Bandung) Venta Christy Sabta Putri NIM: 1522009 The purpose of this study is to improve the mathematical communication ability of junior high school students. This research use of Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting and Extending (CORE) and Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review, and Reflect (SQ4R) learning. This research uses two classes namely class VIII-F and VIII-B SMPN 26 Bandung. The test instrument is a test of mathematical communication ability on the subject of the straight line equation. A non-test instrument is a questionnaire of student responses to know their preferences to mathematical and learning given. This study uses statistical test to know whether the data is normal, homogen and has significance or not. The test used is t-test at significant level (α= 0,05). Research result show that: 1) Mathematical communication ability students before CORE and SQ4R learning is no difference and at a low category. Improvement on mathematical communication of students who acquire CORE and SQ4R increase in high category, 2) There is no significant difference in the improvement on students’ mathematical communication ability between students who acquire CORE and SQ4R learning. 3) Students response shows that they are like CORE and really like SQ4R learning.
