SKIMMING CAPABILITY ANALYSIS OF BUSINESS STUDENTS T AKING ENGLISH II AT UNIVERSITAS ADVENT INDONESIA

This study is entitled, "Skimming Capability of Analysis of Business Students Taking English II at Universitas Advent Indonesia". As we have realized that skimming is one useful reading technique for us in order to gain information. This study involves the first year student of Business Department of Universitas Advent Indonesia as the subject of the research. The first of this study is to find out problems of the students in skimming and to measure how well they could skimm. There are some factors related to the study, that is how frequent they practice reading by skimming and how often the instructor teach them to skim. The writer has found that according to some expert skimming capability is a significant skill for college students. The writer used a descriptive method to prove her research and from her research she found out from her respondents that 17 of them are fast skimmers, 55 are medium skimmers and 33 are slow skimmers. The writer prepares some reading materials for respondents to skim and through this comprehension test she found their capability in skimming. As the result of her study, skimming should be learned and practiced more, they still face problem in doing skimming.
