SQ4R METHOD AND READING COMPREHENSION DEVELOPMENT AMONG THE FRESHMEN BUSINESS STUDENTS

This paper entitled, SQ4R Method and Reading Comprehension Development among the Freshmen Business Students at Universitas Advent Indonesia. A case study is used to answer the question under study. This study involves the freshmen students of Business Department of Universitas Advent Indonesia as the Subject of the research. The purpose of the study to find out whether SQ4R method improves students reading comprehension ability (understanding the content of a text) in English Language Learning classroom rather than conventional model of teaching used by teacher. The level of students' reading comprehension is measured by administering the pre-test and post-test. Then the data was analyzed by using T-test. The result shows that student's reading comprehension had improved by using SQ4R method at the coefficient t counted = 880 > t table = 740 with the significance of level in 0.05 and the degree freedom is 28 (DF = N-1). The students' responses toward the post-test given prove that SQ4R method is effective to improve students' reading comprehension ability.
