COMPARING BETWEEN SQ4R AND SQ5R METHOD TOWARDS STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT SMPN 1 PARONGPONG

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “ Comparing Between SQ4R and SQ5R Method Towards Students’ Reading Comprehension at SMPN 1 Parongpong “. Some students have difficulties in reading because they do not always understand the decoded words and the sentences meaning. This research was designed to find out the effectiveness of using SQ4R and SQ5R method in teaching reading. The respondents were grade 8E with 35 students as the SQ4R and grade 8F with 35 students as the SQ5R group. The research started on February at SMPN 1 Parongpong and was conducted in ten meetings for each group. This research is experimental research wich uses quantitative data and statistical form to calculate the data. The instrument of this research is pre-test before the treatment and post-test after treatment. From the post-test scores the result showed that there is significant difference in reading comprehension between those who were taught using SQ4R and those who were taught using SQ5R method.
