EFFECTIVENESS OF USING METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES TOWARD LISTENING COMPREHENSION SKILL

Abstract The purpose of this research is to find the effectiveness of Metacognitive strategies to improve listening comprehension skill. Listening becomes a very essential skill in learning language. Many students are still struggling to be skillful in this area and trying to find effective ways to improve their listening skill. By learning with Metacognitive strategies, it is expected that the students may have good listening skill after all. The sample of this research were the students within two classes of XI IPA, SMAN 1 Parongpong, Bandung, with the total respondent was 53 students. One class was taught with conventional strategy while the class was taught with Metacognitive strategies. By comparing the result of the pre-test that was given before teaching with the result of post-test in the end and it was known that there was an improvement of the listening comprehension scores among the students who were taught with Metacognitive strategy. Furthermore, there was no significant different in students’ listening comprehension scores between those who were taught using Metacognitive strategy and those who were not. Therefore, further study need to be done. Keywords : metacognitive, listening, listening comprehension.
