FINDING OUT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING SONG MEDIA IN TEACHING ENGLISH LISTENING SKILL OF THE STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 PARONGPONG BANDUNG BARAT

ABSTRACT A method in teaching English is very important especially in listening skill. Therefore, the research questions in this study is as follow; "Can an English song be effective in teaching English listening? Is there any significant difference between media song and non-media song in teaching listening? This research was done in SMAN I Parongpong. There are 61 students who participated, which were taken from grade X A as a control group and X B as an experimental group. This study was divided into three steps: (l) the pretest, (2) the treatment ofsongs and no songs, (3) and the posttest. As the instrument the researchers use English song as a test in pretest and posttest. In the treatment, the researcher used English songs in experimental group. At the end ofthe treatment the researcher found that the mean score ofposttest in control group was 65.16 and for the experimental was 68.48. And p-value was 0.06. This means of Ho is not rejected at d = 0.05. It shows that there is a significant difference between experimental group who were taught English song and the control group who were thought without song. Key words: song, effectiveness, listening
