ENHANCING STUDENT’S VOCABULARY THROUGH SHORT STORIES AND ROLE PLAYS TECHNIQUE FOR GRADE VIII JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine which is better between Short Stories and Role Plays to enhance students’ vocabulary. This study used quantitative research method and experimental study. The participants of this study were 37 students grade VIII E and 36 students grade VIII F of SMP Negeri 1 Cisarua, Kabupaten Bandung Barat. Class VIII E used Short Stories and class VIII F use Role Plays technique. The instrument using vocabulary test, and the statistics used in research is hypothesis testing. As the result, researcher discovered Short Stories and Role Plays had different score in pre-test and posttest. The gain value of the Role Plays is higher than the gain value of the Short Stories. Therefore, the conclusion is there is a significant difference in enhancement students’ vocabulary between those who were taught using Short Stories and those who were taught using Role Plays technique. The researcher recommended the teacher to use Short Stories and Role Plays technique to enhance vocabulary. Keyword: Short Stories, Role Plays Technique, Vocabulary
